COLONEL STEVEN E. LANG

Col. Steven E. Lang is Commander, 45th Launch Group at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. The launch group is the 45th Space Wing’s focal point for Department of Defense, civil and commercial space launch-related activities. The group provides vital operations, engineering and maintenance support for launch vehicles and government satellites prepared and launched on the Eastern Range.

Col. Lang was commissioned in 1993 through the University of Miami ROTC program. He has space operations, nuclear operations and program management experience in Air Force Space Command and Air Force Material Command. Col. Lang served on the Chief of Force Development staff at the Canadian National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada.   

Col. Lang completed squadron command and deputy group command tours in Air Force Recruiting Service, and deployed as Deputy Commander for the 466th Air Expeditionary Group. Most recently, Col. Lang was the Military Deputy for Acquisition Integration at the Pentagon. In that capacity, he provided service acquisition executive oversight to the $200 billion Air Force acquisition portfolio by analyzing, integrating and advising senior leaders on more than 400 research, development and modernization programs. Col. Lang also led the Acquisition Enterprise Strategy and Plans Division and chaired the Air Force’s Research, Development, Test and Evaluation Panel.
