The 45th Space Wing worked with ULA to ensure operations resumed within a week following Hurricane Matthew. Due to the potential impact of the storm, CCAFS closed Oct. 6, 2016 to ensure the safety of the installation and personnel. According to ULA, the large cargo ship takes approximately eight days to transport the vehicle hardware from the Decatur, Ala., factory to the launch site along the Tennessee River to the open ocean. An Antonov aircraft safely landed on the Skid Strip at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., Oct. 9, just days after Hurricane Matthew. The successful delivery of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V booster not only ensured the capability to proceed with the  upcoming GOES-R (Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite mission, it also demonstrated the wing's return to full mission capability after CCAFS closed Oct. 6 in an effort to keep personnel and the installation safe during Hurricane Matthew.
