8/11/2014 - PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla.  -- Senior Airman David Rivera, patrolman, and Airman 1st Class Kristy Becklin, entry controller, both of the 45th Security Forces Squadron, were nominated for Shark of the Week.

Carl Samples, 45th Communications Space Squadron, nominated the duo because they recognized his need for medical attention and radioed 9-1-1 to dispatch emergency medical services personnel at the Patrick Air Force Base main gate, July 17, 2014, ultimately saving his life.

"I approached the gate in my vehicle and was hit with triple vision, trouble speaking and neck pain," Samples said. "I managed to get my truck stopped and attempt to ask for help.

"I don't remember much until I was in the hospital but was told if they had not acted as fast and professionally I would have had permanent damage from the micro stroke I was diagnosed with," Samples said. "I owe those two Airmen my life. Because of them I was able to return to work after only four days as compared to a possible six months."
