Two members of the 45th Space Wing were recognized at the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2016 Valor Awards banquet on Aug. 17, 2016.  Brig. Gen. Wayne Monteith, 45th Space Wing Commander, assisted with the presentations to Tech. Sgt William Shankles, of the 45th Space Wing Security Forces Squadron and Staff Sgt. Michael Hemphill, of the 45th Space Wing Civil Engineer Squadron.  Shankles was presented a Valor Award for his actions involving a medical emergency and Hemphill was presented a life-saving medal when he rescued an injured man and his 4-year old son during a kayak mishap.
