Cape Canaveral Air Force Station returns to mission after Hurricane Matthew
An Antonov aircraft safely landed on the Skid Strip at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., Oct. 9, just days after Hurricane Matthew. The successful delivery of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V booster not only ensured the capability to proceed with the upcoming GOES-R (Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite mission, it also demonstrated the wing's return to full mission capability after CCAFS closed Oct. 6 in an effort to keep personnel and the installation safe during Hurricane Matthew. The 45th SW returned to normal operations within three days following the storm. (U.S. Air Force photos/Matthew Jurgens)
